There are some legitimate AAU programs out there that focus on skill development and incorporating them into game experience. Unfortunately you are correct that a lot of AAU programs are all about making money and not teaching. The Professor ran a really good AAU program that focused on the right things. Thanks for your feedback!

AAU (from what I’ve seen) in its current form is a cancer. It’s more programs than teams and the programs are meat markets. When you go to a practice with 40 kids on the floor at $800 a piece in a semi converted warehouse with 6 mini courts, the coaches are in ‘dude-bro’ mode the whole time you wonder what it’s all about. It seems less about cultivating skills and more about making money. And these warehouse tournaments are a clown show. It’s a far cry from the AAU my family ‘grew up’ in with The Professor. While that was seemed more about developing skills and teamwork on a closer to one on one basis, it was also seemed to be about building a basketball community that is being lost today.
